We left Crystal River heading northwest on Hwy 98 which runs right up along the Gulf. This is a very pretty drive and the day was beautiful.  It was a total of 343 miles.

One place we passed that we tried to get a  reservation  was the Ho Hum RV Park. It is a small park, but looking right out over the gulf from your front windshield. We will try this one again.

We stayed at the Destin RV Resort, Destin, Fla.  It was a very nice park and the campers we met had been coming there for several years staying the winter months.  We stayed there 3 nights.

We were in the grocery store and someone asked us where we were camping.  He was staying for his third year at the Topsail Hill State Park &  RV Resort in Santa Rosa.    So we decided to check that one out.  It was about 10 miles east from where we were. There had been a cancellation due to illness and we were able to reserve 3 days. We moved to it the next day.

I must say that it is the best and most beautiful campground we have yet to stay in.  They do allow pets with proof of vaccination for rabies and all shots are up to date. We have already decided we are going to make reservations for next spring.  It is absolutely beautiful.  Each site has it own palm trees, and other plants native to Florida and you cannot see the campers next to you.  It has a concrete pad with stepping stones from your door to a patio with a picnic table.  The pictures below do not do it justice.

Many snowbirds reserve 3 or 4 months at a time.  You can only reserve 1 year in advance. Like we wanted the whole month of March, 2004, so you would have to call April, 2003 to reserve it.  We started calling the minute they opened, and in 20 minutes they had already booked March, 2004.  We did not get it.  We will just have to go and take our chance of getting in there next year.  I have heard from several people that all the Florida state parks are beautiful.

While we were in the area we took a day trip to Pensacola to the Elgin Air Force Museum where they have tons of planes on display. Jim enjoys any type of plane.
